On Thursday December 5, 2024, the Jardins du Cloître in Marseille hosted an event rich in exchanges and discoveries for all laboratory members. This Doctoral Students' Day (Journée Des Doctorants - JDD) is an ideal opportunity to highlight the research work carried out within the PIIM laboratory. With its emphasis on collaboration and conviviality, the day was a great opportunity for scientific sharing.

Before diving into the thesis presentations, Yannick Marandet, director of the PIIM laboratory, gave a brief history of the research unit, which is now 40 years old. Founded on the values of innovation and excellence, PIIM has gradually established itself as a major research center. Over the years, it has attracted a diverse range of talent and engaged in cutting-edge research projects. This history of PIIM highlights some of the milestone achievements and significant contributions of the researchers who have contributed to its development.

The day continued with doctoral students presenting their thesis topics: second- and third-year students presented their work and answered a few questions. This dynamic format not only provided a succinct overview of current research, but also encouraged interaction between laboratory members. As for the first-years, they gave a brief presentation of their work, with a view to initiating discussions in front of their poster presentation.

This Doctoral Students’ Day was also marked by an important recognition: the director, on behalf of the laboratory, had the pleasure of congratulating Adeline Garcia, winner of the prestigious Jeunes talents France 2024 Fondation L’Oréal – For Women in Sciences award. This distinction celebrates the outstanding contributions of women in the scientific field and underlines the importance of diversity in research. Adeline’s career path and commitment to her field of research will undoubtedly be a source of inspiration for all participants.

The event perfectly illustrated the spirit of collaboration and emulation that characterizes the world of research. Taking part in this convivial day was a unique opportunity to find out more, make new contacts, and draw inspiration from the experiences of others.
