Research interests

- Data-driven astrochemistry : In-depth data mining from ultrahigh-resolving chemical analytics experiments (e.g. FT-ICR-MS or Orbitrap MS). High dimensional data sets are statistically elucidated to understand the complex astrochemistry
of likely millions of extraterrestrial organic molecules.

- Organic chemical evolution : Organic molecules from various astronomical environments (interstellarices, comets, asteroids, meteorites) are comprehensively studied to elucidate the molecules’ origin and evolution. Links to astrobiology and origin of life problems are made.

- Organometallic chemistry : Previously unknown metalorganic compounds are studied both in a general chemical and in astrochemical context. A combination of experimental and computational chemistry methods (mainly mass spectrometry and density-functional theory) are used.

- Analytical chemistry : Mass spectrometry (FT-ICR-MS, Orbitrap, Q-ToF, Ion Trap, LC(-HR)-MS), NMR, SEM-EDX

- Quantum chemistry : DFT, MP2 (diverse software : e.g. Avogadro, FHI-aims, Gaussian, GaussView, Orca)

- Programming : LabView, Matlab, Python, R

- Data analysis : Network analysis (Gephi, Cytoscape), targeted and nontargeted analytical strategies, univariate and multivariate statistical data analysis (PCA, (O)PLS(-DA), Perseus), high dimensional data handling (e.g. normalization, calibration, formula annotation of high-resolution mass spectrometric data - diverse software : e.g. Bruker, Thermo, in-house codes).
