abstract :

The main aim of the Plasma Laser Spectroscopy Laboratory of the University of Valladolid, headed by Prof. Inmaculada de la Rosa, is to develop different experimental plasma diagnostics techniques. At this moment, the work is focused in the diagnostic of hydrogen and deuterium plasmas generated in a hollow cathode discharge, studying the influence of the cathode diameter and the cathode material, tungsten and stainless steel, and the effect of the sputtered material in the cathode fall characteristics. The diagnosis is done measuring the electric field present in the plasma, inducing the 1S-2S transition of hydrogen and deuterium, and determining the Stark shifting and splitting of 2S level, followed by optogalvanic detection. The radiation needed for the measurements is provided by an ad hoc UV-laser spectrometer developed in the laboratory.
